The Full Story
Lash Extensions Aftercare
Iris Avenue London
Keep your lashes full, fluffy and lasting 3–5 weeks
At Iris Avenue, our eyelash extensions are designed to look amazing long after your appointment but great retention depends on good aftercare. If after care for lash extensions doesn't quite work for you, perhaps a lash lift maybe more suitable
Follow the steps below to protect your natural lashes and keep your extensions looking their best.

First 24 Hours - What To Avoid
For the best retention:
-
Do not get your lashes wet — no steam, showers, saunas or sweating workouts
-
Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes
-
Do not apply mascara or eyeliner
-
Avoid sleeping on your side or stomach
-
Do not use oil-based skincare around the eye area
The adhesive needs time to fully cure. Keeping the lashes dry and clean ensures they bond properly.
Signs You Need a Lash Top-Up
-
Lashes look uneven
-
More than 40% of extensions have shed
-
Fans are closing or twisting
-
You see gaps on the lash line
If in doubt, book an infill — it keeps the full, fresh look.
Daily Lash Care Routine
1. Clean your lashes every day
Use a gentle, oil-free lash cleanser. This prevents:
-
Makeup buildup
-
Skin oils weakening the adhesive
-
Premature shedding
Clean lashes = longer-lasting extensions.
2. Brush your lashes
Use a clean spoolie to lightly brush your extensions each morning.
This keeps them fluffy, separated and neat.
3. Sleep on your back (if possible)
Side or stomach sleeping can cause lash twisting and fallout.
4. Avoid picking or pulling
If a lash looks out of place, gently brush it — do not pull it.
Makeup & Skincare Rules
To protect your extensions:
-
Only use oil-free makeup removers
-
Avoid waterproof mascara (it breaks down adhesive)
-
Use water-based eyeliners
-
Keep heavy creams away from the lash line
Oil is the #1 cause of poor retention.

Aftercare for Each Lash Type
Classic Lashes
-
Light, natural and long-wearing
-
Clean daily to prevent buildup at the base
-
Brush gently to keep direction smooth
Hybrid Lashes
-
A mix of classics and volume
-
Brush daily to avoid fans sticking together
Russian Volume
-
Most dense + fluffy
-
Extra cleaning essential because fans can trap oils
-
Be gentle when brushing to preserve fan shape
When to Book Lash Infills
To maintain fullness, book infills every:
-
2–3 weeks for Russian Volume
-
3 weeks for Hybrid
-
3–4 weeks for Classic
Waiting too long means too many natural lashes shed — and you’ll need a full set instead of an infill.
